Don Harris Cup & Super Junior Shield Competitions Report
The final of the Don Harris Cup was played between Tom and Alex on Saturday 27th December.
This year the format for this competition was a singles knock out.
The final had been delayed due to the large entry and the somewhat interrupted summer season’s weather.
The final lasted for 1 hour 45 minutes and was a two set and Championship Tiebreak match. It was won by Tom , 6-4, 6-4 and Stephen Mann, Junior Organiser and club Chairman, presented the trophy.The score accurately reflects the match which was close with many long rallies and deuce games. Cameron Brown, the club’s Junior Representative on the committee was also present to watch this event.
This is the third trophy Tom has won at Henleaze in recent times as he is the 2007 Super Junior Champion and he also won the Junior prize in the 2007 Junior Senior tournament.
It was originally intended to play the final of the Super Junior Shield competition on the same day but this proved impossible. This competition was also structured as a single knockout in 2008.
This final was played 24th January between James and Calum and was also a two sets plus championship tiebreak match.
Like the Don Harris Cup final this match was keenly fought with James being the eventual winner with the score 6-4, 6-3. Stephen Mann again presented the trophy.
Junior Summer League 2008
After several months of waiting, we have at last, received confirmation that we won the Junior U12 Summer League.
Cameron, the Junior Representative on the committee, is now helping Ondrej our coach on a regular basis.
