Winner's prize for the youngest competitor
18 January 2006

'The pre-Christmas tournament was a great success again. It was well attended with 22 entries - 11 men and 11 ladies -enjoying the competition. The weather was kind and everyone turned up, quite miraculously(!) for a midday start.
The format was different this year with pairs playing 4 games with one partner then switching for a further 4 games. Cameron had an excellent day winning far too many games and running off with first prize for the men. The ladies were much closer with Laura and Pat sharing the prizes.
It was lovely to have a good mix of players - league, club, daytime and juniors. The structure of the event meant that games both competitive and balanced. I think everyone had a good time...(not many are too polite to tell me if not!)
By the time it was dark the excellent mince pies (thank you Pat) and Christmas cake (thank you Basia) had been washed down with mulled wine and enthusiasm. Roll on the next tournament, these mixed events are good fun.
Oh and watch out for Cameron...his doubles court craft is far too good...I think he's at least 26 but its a good disguise!
